Stadium track to be resurfaced in time for Champs
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Sports Minister Olivia Grange says the National Stadium track will be resurfaced in time for next month’s ISSA Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships and April’s staging of Grand Slam Track.
Speaking to the Jamaica Observer on Wednesday afternoon, Grange confirmed that a contract was signed with track manufacturers Rekortan and work will begin in the coming days.
Grange says the total investment for the resurfacing of the track will be revealed in an official statement this week.
The state of the track has come into question over the last few months with reports that stakeholders including the Michael Johnson-led Grand Slam Track were concerned it could host high level athletic events.
The Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships is set for March 25-29, while Grand Slam Track will take place from April 4-6
