Fire forces suspension of flights at Trinidad airport
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — The Airport Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (AATT) on Friday said that flights into Piarco International Airport (PIA) have been suspended as a result of a fire at the Amerijet warehouse facility at the south terminal.
The cause of the fire has not been disclosed.
In a statement, the AATT said in accordance with airport emergency response protocols, the Piarco Fire Station responded immediately and was supported by units from the Arima Fire Station.
“The fire is now under control. Please note that flight operations at this time have been suspended. Please be advised that flight operations will resume as soon as there is clearance from the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service and the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority,” AATT said.
It urged passengers to liaise with their airlines “since flights may be delayed as a result of the runway closure”.
The AATT said that it is working with its stakeholders to ensure the safe and secure resumption of flight operations at the airport.
