Vere eliminated from JPL playoff contention with loss to Racing
Vere United were on Sunday officially eliminated from play-off contention in the Jamaica Premier League after they were beaten 2-0 by Racing United in their third round game played at Ferdie Neita Park.
It was a fifth straight game without a win for the last-place team who, on 23 points, cannot qualify for the top-six and could be doomed for relegation as early as next weekend if they lose their next two games.
The win saw Racing move past Waterhouse FC into seventh place, on goal-difference, both teams on 44 points and with a game in hand.
Nickyle Ellis scored in the 13th minute to give Racing the lead and Tyrone Mullings came off the bench to add a second goal in the 90th minute.
Montego Bay United meanwhile confirmed their play-off spot despite being held 0-0 for the third straight time this season by Portmore United in their game played the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
They moved to 65 points, the same as Arnett Gardens who are also safe for the top-six along with leaders Mt Pleasant who were also held 0-0 by Tivoli Gardens at Drax Hall.
Harbour View were gifted a 1-0 win over Dunbeholden FC, thanks to an own goal by Ricardo Brown in the 43rd minute, and improved to 31 points, jumping over Chapelton Maroons into 10th place.
Humble Lion increased their unbeaten run to three games after being held 1-1 by Molynes United at Drewsland stadium. Humble Lion, who finished the game with 10 players, took the lead in the second minute through Richardo Ramsey. Nickache Murray however salvaged a point for Molynes United when he scored in the 57th minute.
Humble Lion were reduced to 10 players in the 78th minute after Ricardo Campbell was sent off, but held on for the draw as both team stayed tied on 29 points.
