#Champs2025: Calabar’s Tarique Daley breaks national junior record in javelin
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Calabar High’s Tarique Daley broke his own Jamaican Under-20 record and the Champs record as he came from behind to win the boys’ Javelin Open in a dramatic fashion at the 115th ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
Daley threw 65.11m twice in the competition to beat Edwin Allen’s Addison James (65.08m) who had broken the Champs record on the opening throw of the competition.
James, who is from Dominica, threw 64.84m on the first throw of the competition to break the meet record of 64.08m set in 2014 by Devon Spencer of St Elizabeth Technical.
Daley responded with 65.11m in the fourth round to beat his previous national junior record of 64.71m set earlier this year and threw the same mark again in the final round.
James managed to throw further, going out to 65.08m while Munro College’s County of Cornwall Athletics Association Western Championships gold medallist Ojay Ellis took the bronze with 60.43m.
