Jah Single blames ‘manipulation of media’ for negative music
Emerging Florida-based reggae artiste Jah Single believes that the negative music which has taken over radio and the dancehall spaces is caused by what he says is a manipulation of the media.
The recording artiste, who is currently promoting the song Cold World, made the assertion in an interview with Observer Online on Friday.
“I believe that the proliferation of negative music is a collective effort between the industry and the consumers. I wouldn’t place full blame on the media, as its main role is mass communication. However, there are individuals and entities that manipulate the media to push certain narratives and agendas,” said Jah Single.
Jah Single, who is originally from St Catherine, has resided in Miami Dade, Florida for the past 17 years. A crusader for positive music, he said messages of hope and positive music are still relevant today.
“Absolutely. Positive and purpose-driven music is not only relevant but necessary in today’s world. While entertainment is important, it’s this kind of music that helps us navigate our daily lives, offering inspiration and strength,” said Jah Single who shared that he brings authenticity to the music.
“I bring authentic music that reflects human emotions and real-life experiences—songs you can connect with and relate to. My music is about uplifting, motivating, making you feel good, and sometimes even making you sit back and reflect,” he said.
Commenting on Cold World, which was released last month, Jah Single said: “I wrote this song to tell the youths to stay alert and protect themselves in the streets. It’s a cold world. Friends are killing friends out there; it’s a dog-eat-dog world. You have to know how to navigate the travails of life. The message in this song is serious but it’s delivered in an entertaining way. Youths can relate to it. It’s music with a purpose.”
