The leadership of Marilyn Flynn
Empowering people, transforming industries
WITH over 20 years of experience in human resource management, talent development, and organisational leadership, Marilyn Flynn stands out as a pillar of strategic leadership, driving change and shaping the future of organisations. Throughout her career, Flynn has developed a precise understanding of the challenges faced in building companies, as well as communities of empowered individuals who possess the potential to achieve extraordinary things.
Serving as the assistant vice-president of group human resources at Sagicor Group Jamaica Ltd, Flynn has held command of the company’s human resources (HR) operations and workforce strategies. She has made significant contributions that have aided in Sagicor’s overall growth and success, from refining talent acquisition practices to shaping leadership development initiatives that foster a high-performing corporate culture. However, what has really catapulted Flynn to the forefront is her deep commitment to people by helping them to realise their true potential while aligning HR practices with overarching business objectives.
“Human resources is not just about managing people; it’s about understanding their potential, unlocking that potential, and creating a culture where everyone can thrive,” Flynn said.
As a certified HR business professional, Flynn has earned a reputation for cultivating positive organisational cultures where innovation, collaboration, and performance are prioritised. While she continues to deliver exceptional results at Sagicor, Flynn brought her expertise to The Hive Careers in 2024, a company transforming the services industry through AI-powered technology and a focus on skilled workforce empowerment. Here, Flynn plays a crucial role in shaping HR strategy, recruitment and professional development, creating an environment that allows both employees and service providers on The Hive’s platform to feel supported, motivated and empowered to excel in their roles.
“I joined The Hive Careers in 2024 as the chief operations and chief people officer. In this capacity, I oversee the company’s operational strategies and human resources initiatives. My responsibilities include streamlining processes to enhance efficiency, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring that our team remains aligned with our core values and mission. Additionally, I focus on talent development, employee engagement, and creating an inclusive environment where every team member can thrive,” Flynn stated.
Through her dual roles at Sagicor and The Hive Careers, Flynn has become a champion for what she believes is the future of work: a future where people are empowered to reach their full potential, organisations thrive through collaboration and innovation, and industries are transformed by technology and human capital working in tandem.
“At The Hive, our talent acquisition strategy is rooted in innovation, inclusivity, and precision. We leverage advanced AI algorithms to align candidates’ skills, experiences, and aspirations with employers’ requirements, ensuring a higher success rate in placements,” she explained. “Beyond job matching, we offer resources such as skills-based training and international certifications, empowering candidates to enhance their qualifications and adapt to evolving industry demands. Understanding that each individual’s career journey is unique, we provide tailored guidance and support, fostering meaningful connections between job seekers and employers.”
In her role, it is imperative that Flynn creates an atmosphere of inclusivity and comfort for users, employees and employers alike. “Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are foundational to our mission at The Hive. Our platform is designed to be accessible and welcoming to individuals from all backgrounds, ensuring that everyone has equal opportunities to benefit from our services. To further promote fairness, we continuously refine our AI algorithms to eliminate biases, promoting fair and objective matching processes that focus solely on candidates’ skills and qualifications,” she said. “Additionally, we provide training and resources that emphasise the importance of DEI, encouraging both job seekers and employers to foster inclusive workplaces. By partnering with organisations that champion diversity and inclusion, we amplify our efforts to create equitable employment opportunities across various industries.”
