World Indoors: Williams and Morrison advance to 60m semis

Jamaica’s Jodean Williams and Natasha Morrison both ran 7.20 seconds in their respective first round races to advance to the semi-finals of the women’s 60m on the second day of the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China.

Despite a slow start, Williams powered her way through the field to win her heat ahead of Patrizia Van Der Weken of Luxembourg and Liberia’s Destiny Smith-Barnett, both timed at 7.21 seconds.

Morrison got off to a fast start but was caught and finished third behind Poland’s Eva Swoboda who won with 7.16 seconds and China’s Xiaojing Liang who equalled her personal best 7.20 seconds.

The semi-finals will be run 7:15am Saturday Jamaican time with the final set for 8:18am.
