Honour Prince shines in Sir Howard Stakes victory
Honour Prince, owned by Peniel, trained by Robert Pearson, and ridden by Phillip Parchment, began his Classic campaign with an eye-catching win in the $1.2-million Sir Howard Stakes on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
The Sir Howard Stakes, an important prep race on the Road to the Triple Crown series of races for native-bred three-year-old colts and geldings, was run over six furlongs (1,200 metres).
Honour Prince, a bay colt bred by Bern Identity out of the Fort Larned mare Awesome Lucy, won the Restricted Allowance II contest by three parts of a length in a time of 1:14.2 (23.2 x 46.4).
Below, the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide analyses the outcome of the race.
FIRST – HONOUR PRINCE – Honour Prince’s effort was a testament to his exceptional talent and class. He had trained well leading up to the race and delivered a standout performance. Jockey Phillip Parchment executed a brilliant ride, timing his move perfectly to showcase Honour Prince’s impressive acceleration and potential for longer distances.
SECOND – PRINCE ROY – Prince Roy emerged as a surprise contender in the Sir Howard Stakes. Despite preferring longer distances, Prince Roy demonstrated resilience and determination, closing strongly to secure second place. Continued improvement will be crucial for Prince Roy to remain competitive at longer distances.
THIRD – ANOTHER ONE – Though the pre-race favourite, Another One failed to deliver a solid performance. He broke well, assumed the lead, and maintained his advantage until the final stages. However, his narrow defeat may indicate potential challenges in handling longer distances.
FOURTH – MARK MY IDENTITY – Mark My Identity, another distance-seeker, performed admirably to secure a top-four finish. As the races extend in distance, Mark My Identity is expected to continue earning.
FIFTH – SENSATIONAL SOUL – Unfortunately, Sensational Soul failed to make an impact.
SIXTH – EASY MONEY – Following an encouraging debut win, Easy Money’s underwhelming performance was unexpected. However, he is likely to rebound.
SEVENTH – STRONG MIND – Strong Mind’s subpar effort suggests that something may have gone amiss. A stronger performance is anticipated in his next outing.
