Grants ‘boost’ for HEART/NSTA Trust STEM graduates
KINGSTON, Jamaica -Commencing next month HEART/NSTA Trust graduates in level-four Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)-related courses will be eligible for grants of up to $300,000 to purchase specialised tools or software to kick-start their businesses.
The grants will be provided under the Building Opportunities for Outstanding STEM Talent (BOOST) Programme.
Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, who made the announcement during his 2025/26 Budget Debate presentation in the House of Representatives on Thursday, said the programme is part of the Government’s efforts to further support STEM talent.
Additionally, he advised that HEART will be investing $400 million to establish state-of-the-art Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) laboratories in technical high schools islandwide.
“These labs will feature robotics kits, virtual welding simulators, drone technology, hydroponics, and 3D printers – ensuring that children from all backgrounds can access world-class technical education,” Holness detailed.
