Rusty delivers trainer Little’s first win of the season
Trainer Kibbeisha Little celebrated her first win of the season on Saturday, March 15, 2025, as her seven-year-old bay gelding Rusty emerged victorious in the sixth race.
The event was a three-year-old Claiming ($500,000-$400,000) contest that included native-bred six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) and imported six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two), competing over 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight.
Under the guidance of jockey Shavon Townsend, Rusty tracked the leaders in the early stages, as Basilicus (Dane Dawkins) and
God of Love (Phillip Parchment) battled for supremacy. However, as the field approached the dummy rails, God of Love seized control and appeared destined for victory.
In a stunning turn of events, Rusty unleashed a late surge, overtaking God of Love to win by ¾ lengths. God of Love finished second, with Magical Mood (Ian Spence) claiming third place. The winning time was recorded at 1:01.4, with splits of 23.2 x 48.1.
