Falmouth clash with Treasure Beach in JFF Championship
FALMOUTH United and Treasure Beach FC will meet in what is expected to be a closely contested game in Group B of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Championship at Trelawny Stadium in Florence Hall today at 3:30 pm.
The teams drew 3-3 in the first round, and another high-scoring game is expected today as leaders Falmouth United go after a seventh-straight win.
Falmouth United lead Group B with 19 points — three more than Reno FC who edged Petersfield FC 1-0 on Saturday — with Treasure Beach and Holland PYC tied on 11 points in third place.
Since allowing three goals against Treasure Beach in their opening game, Falmouth United have allowed just one more in their next six games — an own goal in a 3-1 win over Reno FC.
Meadforest took over the lead in Group A with a 6-0 drubbing of Portlanders FC on Saturday, improving to 18 points — one more than Baptist Alliance who were held 0-0 by Progressive FC.
Raheem Porter scored four goals to lead Meadforest FC, taking over the lead in the goalscoring table with seven goals and netting in the 27th, 33rd, 35th and 73rd minutes, while Jermaine Morgan, who scored in the 43rd minute, and Junior McGregor, who scored in the 90th minute, both got their second goals of the season.
Lime Hall have gone winless in their last three games, beaten 2-1 by Tru-Juice at Drax Hall Sports Complex. Fabiki Farquharson scored in the 38th minute for Tru-Juice and Damion Herrera doubled the lead in the 67th minute before Javan Smith scored a consolation in time added for Lime Hall, who lead Tru-Juice on goal difference.
At Royale Lakes, Jordan Ellison scored a double for Spanish Town Police to beat Grays Inn 2-0 and avenge their first-round 2-1 loss.
Reno scored back-to-back 1-0 wins, edging Petersfield FC at Llandilo Sports Complex and sweeping the season series, thanks to a 46th-minute goal from Jeremy Coke.
Petersfield ended the game with 10 players as Dushanie Ewen was sent off late in the game.
