KINGSTON, Jamaica — Humble Lion are out of the relegation zone in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) after beating Harbour View 1-0 in their third-round game played on Sunday at the Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon.
Humble Lion, who were winning for the third time in their last five games, are up to 12th place on 24 points, just one point above Chapelton Maroons who drew with Molynes United, while Vere United are at the foot of the tables on 22 points.
Afiba Chambers scored a valuable goal for Humble Lion in the 44th minute to take them to within four points of 11th place Molynes United and Harbour View, who are tied on 28 points.
Both goals in the 1-1 draw between Molynes United and Chapelton Maroons came late in their game, played at the Anthony Spaulding Complex, as Deandre Cunningham gave Chapelton the lead in the 72nd minute before Peter McGregor came off the bench to grab a point for Molynes United in the 87th minute.
Tivoli Gardens came from behind twice to outscore Waterhouse 3-2 and got back-to-back wins, inching up to seventh place on 39 points, two behind Racing United who have a game in hand against leaders Mt Pleasant FA on Monday.
Nicholas Hamilton gave Waterhouse the early lead when he scored in the 11th minute before Shaquille Jones equalised in the 34th minute as they went to the half-time break tied at 1-1.
Elvis Wilson restored Waterhouse FC’s lead in the 76th minute but it was short-lived as Anthony Nelson drew Tivoli Gardens level a minute later with his ninth goal of the season before Lennox Russell scored the winning goal four minutes into time added.
Defending champions Cavalier FC and Portmore United, who are chasing a play-off spot, both scored 1-0 wins over Vere United and Dunbeholden FC, respectively.
Cavalier FC, who were coming off their elimination from the Concacaf Champions League, got maximum points thanks to a 62nd-minute goal from Dwayne Atkinson in the second game of the double at Anthony Spaulding Complex.
At Ferdi Neita Park, Javier Brown’s 19th-minute goal was the difference between Portmore United and Vere United as the losers slipped to the foot of the tables.
