Championship Zone A leaders in tight race
PORTLAND, Jamaica — The top three teams in Zone A of the Jamaica Football Federation Championship will be seeking wins today as the return round gets underway with six games scheduled.
Three points separate the top three teams, with Baptist Alliance on top with 16 points. They will play away to Progressive FC who they edged 1-0 in the first round.
Second placed Meadforest FC will be home to Portlanders FC at Constant Spring while Lime Hall, who were awarded points in the first round will host fourth placed Tru-Juice FC at Drax Hall.
Baptist Alliance will seek to sweep the season series against Progressive FC if they are to maintain their slim lead in Zone A and faces a Progressive team that have picked up one point in their last four games and failed to score in their last two outings.
Hot on the heels of Baptist Alliance are Meadforest FC who had beaten last placed Portlanders FC 2-1 in the first round and are on 15 points and could take over the lead if the St Thomas-based Baptist Alliance fail to take maximum points today.
Lime Hall are on 14 points and face a tough Tru-Juice FC team that had to forfeit their first round game and will be coming for revenge as they seek to move up in the rankings.
True-Juice have won two of their last three games, losing only to Baptist Alliance while Lime Hall have failed to win any of their last two games.
Reno FC, who are in second place in Zone B, will meet Petersfield FC in an all Westmoreland match up at Llandilo; Holland PYC take on Mt Pleasant FA Juniors, and Spanish Town Police will seek to avenge their first round loss when they take on Grays Inn SC.
Reno FC could lessen the deficit on leaders Falmouth United who will not play until Tuesday when they take on Petersfield FC who are in fourth place.
Reno FC, who had won the first round game 2-1, and who snapped a three-game skid last week with a win over St Bess United, could be made to work hard by Petersfield FC, who are on a run of three games without a loss.
Games today include:
Reno FC vs Petersfield FC- Llandilo Sports Complex
Holland PYC vs MPA Juniors FC- Lacovia Community Centre
Progressive FC vs Baptist Alliance SC- Carder Park
Meadforest FC vs Portlanders FC- Constant Spring
Lime Hall FC vs Tru Juice FC- Drax Hall
