Sandals team members create inspiring mural at Ocho Rios Primary
IN a display of community spirit and artistic collaboration, 56 team members from Sandals Ochi Beach Resort dedicated their time and talents to painting a vibrant mural at the St Ann-based Ocho Rios Primary School’s Special Education Unit recently.
This initiative, organised through the Sandals Foundation, was part of the region’s annual tradition involving the resort’s Prestige Award nominees for the previous year.
Ahead of the annual Prestige Awards celebration, the 2024 nominees came together for a week of team-building activities, culminating in a day of community service.
This mural, rich with symbols and writings, celebrated themes of love, diversity, unity and individuality. Its creation beautified the school’s environment and provided an inspiring message that will resonate with students, staff and visitors alike.
Natalie Johnson, acting principal at Ocho Rios Primary, expressed her gratitude.
“We are overwhelmed by this generous act. The mural has transformed our space into a beacon of hope and inclusivity. It’s a daily reminder to our students that they are valued and embraced for who they are. We are grateful to Sandals Ochi and Sandals Foundation,” said Johnson.
The volunteers, all nominees vying for the 2024 Prestige Award titles across several categories, spent the week engaging in various activities, including a catamaran cruise, movie night and collaborative projects. The mural painting served as the highpoint of their week, allowing them to give back to the community while unveiling hidden artistic talents.
“We regularly create awesome experiences like this one to inspire and make a great difference in the lives of others through the Sandals Foundation,” said team member Tama Hamilton.
“We poured our hearts into every brushstroke, knowing the positive impact it would have on these amazing students,” added Hamilton.
