Mount Pleasant eye play-off spot as JPL continues
RUNAWAY leaders Mount Pleasant FA could move to within a point of securing a play-off spot if they can beat fifth-placed Portmore United in their third-round Jamaica Premier League game at Ferdie Neita Park, starting at 3:30 pm today.
Mt Pleasant FA, who are on 68 points — 10 more than second-placed Arnett Gardens — would be within touching distance of a play-off spot, with 10 games still to be played, if they can sweep their season series against the former champions.
In another game scheduled for today, Tivoli Gardens and Molynes United will face off at the Edward Seaga Complex and both teams, who are coming off draws on Sunday, need to win.
At Ferdie Neita Park the home team will be seeking their first win and first goal against the St Ann team this season, after losing 2-0 and 1-0 in their two meetings so far.
Portmore United have scored just three goals in their last five games but benefited from a boardroom ruling through which they were awarded three goals and three points from their 0-0 draw against Arnett Gardens, who were found to have used an ineligible player in their second-round meeting on February 20.
On the other hand, they have been airtight at the back but face the competition’s best attacking force with 72 goals so far and which has three players with at least 10 goals already to their credit.
Shaqueil Bradford and Daniel Green have both scored 12 goals for Mt Pleasant FA, with Kimonie Bailey on 10.
Tivoli Gardens have drifted away from the promotion spots and are in eighth place, five points from sixth, and will need to start winning games if they are to challenge for a place.
Molynes United have picked up four points from their last two games to edge away from the relegation places and will be gunning for their first win against Tivoli Gardens this season, after drawing 0-0 and losing 2-0.
