Businessman charged in deadly St Andrew gun attack
KINGSTON, Jamaica —Swift investigations by the St Andrew South police have resulted in a businessman being charged in connection with a deadly gun attack that left a man dead and another injured on Cinnamon Crescent, St Andrew last week.
One week after the incident, detectives from the division have charged 26-year-old Jason Munroe, otherwise called ‘Moonie’, of Kingsley Avenue in St Andrew.
Munroe has been charged with murder, wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition and using a firearm to commit a felony.
The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Warren Grant, otherwise called ‘Zeeks’, from Hill Avenue, Kingston 11; another man was injured during the shooting.
According to the police, around 3:00 pm, Grant was sitting along the roadway when a man approached and opened gunfire at him. Grant tried to escape but was chased and shot multiple times before collapsing at the scene.
Another man at the location saw what was happening and threw a stone at the gunman, who opened fire and shot him in the abdomen before escaping in a waiting motor vehicle.
The injured men were taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where doctors pronounced Grant dead and admitted the other in stable condition.
Munroe was later arrested, interviewed in the presence of his attorney and formally charged.
