Back to the 70s
Citizens’ Advice Bureau Basic School on Beechwood Avenue in St Andrew used the annual Jamaica Day celebrations on Friday to go retro with a reflectio
n of the 1970s.
With the dress code firmly established, students lived up to expectations, donning very colourful and creative outfits depicting the style of the 1970s. Where some students didn’t wear clothing that matched the theme, the parents made up for it by ensuring they wore clothing in Jamaica’s signature black, gold, and green colours.
Lavern Jones, teacher of class 1A, said that she was very pleased with the display.
“Their outfits are splendid and beautiful. Dem sell off! It is a difference from the regular black, gold, and green setting. At least the children get an understanding of the style of clothing that was worn back then. I praise the parents because they went above and beyond for the kids. It was a good day and the children really enjoyed themselves,” Jones told the Jamaica Observer.
