Flanker aim to end Sandals Major League first round in style
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Semi-final qualifiers Flanker FC will be hoping to end the first round of the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League in style when they take on Norwood Strikers in their return game at Albion. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
Flanker FC, who have won their last six games, lead Zone B with an insurmountable 21 points, while Norwood Strikers, at the foot of the points table, are out of contention for a semi-final place.
Reggae Youths, who have already secured their place in the semi-finals, are set to play contenders Lilliput Rovers at the UDC field on Saturday.
Lilliput Rovers are in third place in Zone A on 13 points. A draw would see them advance ahead of Wadada United on goal-difference, but Reggae Youths would win the zone with a win and avoid Flanker FC in the semi-finals.
The first round will be completed on Sunday when Green Pond SC, in second place in Zone A, attempt to get at least a point against third-placed Cambridge United to join Flanker FC as semi-final qualifiers.
Cambridge United, who are on 13 points, are three behind Green Pond SC. Cambridge must win by five clear goals if they are to advance to the semi-finals.
