$350 million allocated to dualise Braeton Road and Hellshire main road
KINGSTON, Jamaica- The Government has set aside $350 million for the dualisation of Braeton Road and Hellshire main road in Portmore, St Catherine.
The expansion works will take place from Naggo Head to Texaco Gas Station and on to East Mid Street in the municipality.
The sum is contained in the 2025/2026 Estimates of Expenditure currently before the House of Representatives.
The project, which began in January 2025, is slated to be completed in March 2027.
It aims to improve mobility and connectivity through the reduction of congestion and loss of time while improving safety. The works will also facilitate conditions for future economic development through water infrastructure and fibre-optic ducts for broadband connectivity along Braeton Road and Hellshire main road.
The designs and drawing for the project were completed up to December 2024.
Going into the new fiscal year, the target is to award the civil works contract, mobilise the contractor and commence civil works, achieving 90 per cent completion.
The agency facilitating the project is the National Works Agency (NWA) with funding from the Government.
The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation.
