Promoter fined $20,000 for hosting event without permit
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A female promoter has been fined $20,000 or given the option of 10 days imprisonment for hosting an entertainment event without first obtaining a sound permit from the superintendent in charge of the St Andrew North Police Division.
The accused, Salian Hall, pleaded guilty to the charges when she appeared before Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
Reports indicate that on February 3, 2025, a team of police officers on patrol observed an entertainment event taking place in a community in Gordon Town, St Andrew.
Hall was prosecuted for failing to provide a sound permit.
The Noise Abatement Act requires organisers to obtain a permit to host an event with sound. Those found in breach of the Act may face a fine of up to $100,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months.
