Mt Pleasant held 1-1 by Montego Bay United in JPL
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Montego Bay United (MBU) came from an own goal down at half time to earn a 1-1 draw against leaders Mt Pleasant FA at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Monday as the second round of the Jamaica Premier League came to a close.
Mt Pleasant FA, who played most of the game with just 10 men after Jahshaun Anglin was sent off in time added on in the first half after he was shown a second yellow card, leads the tables with 62 points, seven more than second-placed Arnett Gardens who beat Vere United 2-0 in the first game of the doubleheader with Montego Bay United in third place on 50 points.
The top six is filled out by defending champions Cavalier FC, who are fourth on 44 points, Portmore United on 41 points and Waterhouse FC on 37 points.
On Monday, Mt Pleasant FA took the lead in the 32nd minute, against the run of play, when MBU defender Odean Nish inadvertently put the ball into his own goal after trying to block a cross from Shaquille Bradford.
With time running out in the first half, Mt Pleasant FA lost Anglin who had been shown his first yellow card in the 36th minute, as he jumped for a ball with MBU’s Demario Phillips who fell to the turf holding his head.
MBU drew level four minutes into the second half when Johann Weatherly was quickest to a ball that the Mt Pleasant defence had failed to clear and punched it past goalkeeper Shaquan Davis from about four yards out.
In the first game, Arnett Gardens dominated Vere United after scoring the opening goal after just three minutes when Fabian Reid powered a ball from outside the box past goalkeeper Richardo White. They scored their second goal in the 86th minute.
A mistake by defender Michael Forbes was punished by Warner Brown who pounced on the loose ball and steered it low into the left corner of the goal, scoring his league-leading 15th of the season.
