A significant number of Jamaicans are of the view that the country should have its own music awards ceremony.

Why don’t we have our own awards?
Dear Editor,
This country of ours gave the world the genres of reggae and dancehall. Jamaica is considered the entertainment capital of the Caribbean. How is it that since the Youth View Awards the nation is still without a major award ceremony for reggae and dancehall?
I believe the main reason the Youth View Awards ended is because Vybz Kartel dominated the awards from prison. The youth of Jamaica proved that
Fever was actually the best song in 2016. The song charted on Billboard and sold gold in under four years.
It is time the music industry creates an annual award ceremony. Having a credible award ceremony can also in the future solve the king of dancehall debate.
