Our Love Was Worth The Wait
I Guess I’m In Love by Clinton Kane
Oh. I’m obsessed
With the way your head is layin’ on my chest
How you love the things I hate about myself
That no one knows, but with you, I see hope again
Oh, I’m a mess
When I overthink the little things in my head
You seem to always help me catch my breath
But then I lose it again
When I look at you, that’s the end
Love can come in unexpected ways. For Tanya Green and Jeffrey Latibeaudiere, their road to the altar may initially have been unforeseen but developed into a love to last a lifetime.
The couple exchanged vows on June 22, 2024 at the Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church in Ocho Rios.
Their relationship started as a slow burn, with Tanya and Jeffrey, both medical doctors, meeting each other at the Mandeville Regional Hospital in 2019. Tanya liked his calm, warm personality and felt that he was someone that she could relate to, while not initially thinking that it could develop into anything more.
“I thought he was very friendly. He seemed like a warm person, very helpful, very nice, just like an all-round good person,’ Tanya told Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).
They would build a strong friendship from their initial meeting but it wasn’t until 2020 that Jeffrey’s true feelings would reveal themselves to Tanya, courtesy of a mysterious Valentine’s Day gift.
“I wasn’t sure who the gift was from. So my best friend and I, with his help, were trying to find out who the gift was from because by that time, Jeffrey and I had developed a friendship. We spent all day interviewing possible suspects until eventually we realised that it was from Jeffrey… and that is how I found out that he liked me more than a friend,” Tanya said. “I think that’s when the proverbial penny dropped! Things just blossomed after that.”
That moment would fan the flames of their relationship, even with the harsh challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic would present. But while they battled together to save lives, they also found time to draw closer together, with hotel getaways once they started to reopen. Tanya’s initial impressions of Jeffery were further cemented during this period, as she saw him as someone with whom she could spend the rest of her life.
“During the time that we were friends, I realised that everybody had the same basic idea of him, that they knew him to be this very nice person, someone that is easy to talk to, somebody that is reliable. He is always there to support me. When we got into a relationship, those things came to light even more. He was always there for me without question, especially since it was such a difficult time in the world and in our lives,” Tanya said.
Both were confident that marriage would be the endgame. Tanya had initially thought that a proposal would not come for at least another couple of years. However, Jeffrey had other plans and in fact, the perfect surprise in store for her birthday on April 22, 2023. At Jeffrey’s suggestion, they enjoyed a birthday dinner at the AC Hotel. Little did she know that lay ahead.
“We had dinner in a private room and then afterwards, everybody said they would go upstairs to a rooftop garden area to take pictures. My best friend and I had gone to the restroom, everyone had gone upstairs. When we got up there, we realised that the proposal was about to take place. I was shocked,” Tanya said. “There was a camera crew, sparklers, the whole thing.”
The proposal would set the stage for them to have their ‘happily ever after’ more than a year later.
In a dress from LBR Bridal, Tanya walked up the aisle to a violin version of Halo by Beyoncé at Our Lady of Fatima with the décor arranged by Petals and Promises. Witnessed by friends and family and guided by Father Walter Dorcey, Tanya and Jeffrey exchanged wedding vows and were soon declared husband and wife. The festivities moved to Prospect Great House in St Mary for the reception, expertly decorated by Petals and Promises, where guests enjoyed a sumptious wedding feast courtesy of Epic Plating.
Formalities included heartfelt speeches, the cutting of the wedding cake by Sweet Cakes and the newly-weds’ first dance to I Guess I’m In Love by Clinton Kane.
In the words of the newly-weds to TSD “It would be the perfect way to celebrate their union and culminate their journey together”.
