Di Genius earns platinum certification in France
Producer Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor, son of veteran reggae singer Freddie McGregor, has more reasons to celebrate this holiday season.
On Tuesday, a song that he produced entitled Taken, recorded by French rapper and singer Kalash, was certified platinum for the streaming equivalent of 30 million streams.

The certification was issued by Syndicat National de L’edition Phonographic, which translates in English to National Syndicate of Phonographic Publishing (SNEP).
Commenting in an Instagram story posted on his official Instagram page, Di Genius said “Went platinum in France. Thanks to my fam @Kalash972.”
Taken is featured on Kalash’s 2016 album titled Kaos which was released by Capitol Music France. The 17-track set peaked at #49 in Belgium and #4 on the France Top 100 Albums chart.
Taken rose as high as #63 on the French Top 100 Singles chart.
A year later in 2017, Kalash again worked with McGregor on the track Why, which was featured on the rapper’s album Mwaka Moon for Capitol Music France. That album, which was certified gold in France, featured the collaborations No Roof (with Vybz Kartel) and God Knows (with Mavado).
Mwaka Moon topped out at #3, #27 and #79 on album charts in France, Belgium and Switzerland respectively.
Two years later, Kalash collaborated with Mavado on the track Divine for his album Diamond Rock. In 2022, he again worked with Mavado on a track titled My Life, which was featured on the album Tombolo.
Tombolo also featured the songs Le Sang with Rvssian, Grimey with Skillibeng and Everybody Falla with Bounty Killer.
